Group-size dependent synergy in heterogeneous populations

چکیده
When people collaborate, they expect more in return than a simple sum of their efforts. This observation is at the heart so-called public goods game, where participants' contributions are multiplied by an $r$ synergy factor before distributed among group members. However, larger could be effective, which can described factor. To elaborate on possible consequences, this study, we introduce model population has different sizes groups, and applied depends size group. We examine options when increment linear, slow, or sudden, but all cases, cooperation level higher that homogeneous used. In latter case, smaller groups perform better; however, behavior reversed increases for groups. Hence, entire community benefits because rewarded better. Notably, similar qualitative observed other heterogeneous topologies, including scale-free interaction graphs.

Fission-fusion dynamics and group-size dependent composition in heterogeneous populations
Many animal groups are heterogeneous and may even consist of individuals of different species, called mixed-species flocks. Mathematical and computational models of collective animal movement behaviour, however, typically assume that groups and populations consist of identical individuals. In this paper, we develop and analyse a model of merge and split group dynamics, also called fission-fusio...
متن کاملSynergy and group size in microbial cooperation.
Microbes produce many molecules that are important for their growth and development, and the exploitation of these secretions by nonproducers has recently become an important paradigm in microbial social evolution. Although the production of these public-goods molecules has been studied intensely, little is known of how the benefits accrued and the costs incurred depend on the quantity of publi...
متن کاملSupervised Group Size Regulation in a Heterogeneous Robotic Swarm
In this study, we work with a heterogeneous swarm of wheeled and aerial robots. We present a selforganised approach inspired by the aggregation behaviour of cockroaches that allows each aerial robot to form a dedicated group of wheeled robots of a particular size. Our approach is based on simple probabilistic rules, but still proves robust and flexible. Different groups can be formed in paralle...
متن کاملA Stabilization Group Approach for Heterogeneous Populations of Trauma Clients
High prevalence and long-lasting implications of human-inflicted trauma call for effective treatment approaches reaching clients in need of trauma-specific treatment. Numerous approaches exist, but often with limited empirical support. There is also a tendency toward segregating treatment approaches depending on type of exposure history and presenting symptoms. This might exclude clients in nee...
متن کاملCascade Effects in Heterogeneous Populations
We present a model of sequential choice which explains the emergence and persistence of unpopular, inefficient behavioral norms in society. We model individuals as naı̈ve Bayesian norm followers, rational agents whose subjective expected utility is increased by adherence to an established norm. Agents use Bayesian reasoning to combine their private preferences and prior beliefs with empirical ob...
